MUSIC has been my secret best friend for a long-time.

I used to have a set playlist I’d listen to before games. I’d tweak it all the time.

It had to be in just the right order, and I had to start it at just the right time before tip-off (usually an hour).

And every time I listened to it it.. was like a shot of KICK-ASS, straight to the heart.

I would instantly become more focused, more energized and completely ready to lay the hardwood smackdown on anyone who mistakenly chose to stand in my way.

Science has backed the power of specific types of music too. Lots of studies over the last 10 years or so have shown certain music to instantly increase strength and endurance, as well as head injuries due to repeated forehead-wall interactions.

And here’s the best part: With so many choices out there, we all have our own go-to songs, which brings me today to..

Today’s my birthday.

The old, old age of 24.

And per usual, the first thing I did when I woke up this morning was write in my journal.

It’s become something of a tradition for me to ask myself two questions on the morning of my birthday, before I start fielding all the calls and texts from awesome people.

Here are the two questions I ask myself:

1. What things did I do over the last year that I’m most proud of?

2. What am I most excited about doing in the next year ahead?

The answers to #1 let me know which things I should really focus on doing more of in the next year, and the answers to #2 get me all jazzed up and clear on where I’m going this year.

And NOW..

Since I know it’s my birthday, I could totally ask for birthday presents from everyone and totally play it up, but there’s really only one thing I want from you today..
